Lots of you are making plans, checking flights, tying flies, getting a bit of spring fever and daydreaming of your Montana adventure!
In case you are wondering “how much is it going to cost to get there", please give my good friend Mike a call at Freedom Travel of Butte, Montana. Contrary to popular belief, all travel agents are not created equal.
Give this guy a holler at 406-494-4993, tell him JB sent you. I look forward to hearing from you.

For anyone who has fished Montana the last few years, you may recall the dry, hot summers and many river closers, not to mention tough fishing at times. After a 7 year dry spell the snowpack thus far is looking to provide for the best year of fishing in quite some time.
Winter is still here, with snow or rain occuring daily and adding to the snowpack. There has been no run off as of yet, which means any melting has gone “in” and not “off", giving further reason to celebrate and tie a few extra flies. March and April are often big snow months, so we are well ahead of the game. We are to get even more snow this week, so keep it coming.
July and August have always been great times to fish the area, this season water levels and temperatures should be just about right for the famous Montana fishing. Please see the attatched data from the official source!

We do our homework here at Dome Mountain and would like to invite those of you visiting out site to take a look at our current rates and compare.
http://www.montanasbestflyfishing.com/montana-flyfishing-price.htm
You should find that we offer a sincerely honest rate for an outstanding package. Based on thousands of solid guest comments over the seasons we have put together packages that will be tough to beat.
It’s hard to put a dollar figure on our location. One thing that makes a stay with us complete is the fact that upon arrival you break out your rod, put it together and string it up. Chances are, you won’t have to put it back in that case until that sad day come when you have to leave.
We have always dreamed of becoming the perfect fly fishing lodge and we believe we are getting very close. We look forward to what is shaping up to be the absolute best season ever!
Thanks again everyone for taking the time to visit our site and read the blogs. Please feel free to leave some comments and questions, that’s why we are here.

Those “gas prices” sure are a hot topic these days and I am getting concerned that this is something that might actually keep people from going fishing, but the thing is, you can’t fish and drive a car at the same time.
For guests who plan to drive to Dome Mountain Lodge-purchase everything you need before you get here during one trip-anything else you need, we likely have it. Since Livingston, Montana is a 60 mile round trip from the ranch, for every trip you don’t make you save 60 miles worth of gas.
For guests with rental cars-get the cheapest, most fuel efficient vehicle offered-fly rods don’t take up much room and you do not need 4 wheel drive SUV’s to go to any Montana Fly Fishing. A simple passenger vehicle will get you to the same places, you just won’t look as cool.
Other Hints-
Tie good knots the first time (save a fly).
Take a buddy or family member fishing with you.
Walk…don’t drive.
Fish the ranch stretch-walking distance from cabin.
Drive slower-enjoy the scenery
Fish Longer-more hours on the water per day will result in less hours driving.
Don’t buy “premium” gas, you rental car doesn’t need it and either does your family car.
Buy your fishing license, food and beverages at the gas station on your way here.
Fact is folks, the price of gas has finally surpassed the price of bottled water, at least they are pretty close. Fishing a variety of waters throughout the state may sound like a good idea, but keep in mind that Montana is a huge state and of course offers a lifetime of opportunities. My advice is find a nice place you enjoy fishing and keep going back. Remember, even though the surroundings may stay the same, the water you just fished isn’t there anymore.

Hello Everyone and welcome to our new websites! I sincerely hope you all find them both informative and entertaining! In addition, thanks for all your comments!
This will be our 10th season as “Dome Mountain", but as many of your already know, our lodge and cabins still hold the title as the first upper Yellowstone Riverside fly fishing lodge and cabins near the park. Our main lodge cafe is open and ready for those hearty home cooked meals. The lower lake has been completely renovated-I will take bets right now that it will offer some incredibly insane fishing. In addition, lots of other upgrades have taken place, which all are a result from your comments and suggestions over the years-we believe we have created the perfect Montana Fly Fishing Lodge and welcome you to let us prove it.
The sun is shining brightly in the big Montana sky. Snowpack levels are better than they have ever been in the last 10 years…matter of fact, many “old timers” are saying this is one of the best winters we have had in loooonnngggg time…which means this season has all the makings of one of the best fishing seasons we will have had in a long time!
Hunters-It’s still not too late…although we are cutting it close. Elk hunting is all about “resourcefulness". We have about 6 total openings left, then that’s it, no if and or whats-that’s what makes us special, a limited amount of hunters for unlimited amounts of opportunity. To share the culminated comments of our past clients and friends-it just gets better even when we thought it couldn’t be any better! Please give us a call soon!
I look forward to catching up with everyone!

Key West was a welcome escape for a few days, yet Montana is the place we miss most. We will be back in the main office this weekend. We’ve talked with a lot of folks, sure appreciate the calls everyone. Even though we are extremely excited to get the summer going, we realize there are still a few of you trying to get your tags in for the 2008 hunting season. Please get in touch with us so we can get them on the desks in Helena.
There are still thousands of elk on the ranch, leaving fence work job security. The new management and travel restrictions on the ranch have made a huge difference! After one year’s time it was amazing to once again see elk return to their natural areas. After this summer with increased feed and no livestock grazing we estimate our resident herd will again grow in both size and quality.
Once again, as a reminder, the deadline for licenses for the Montana Big Game Outfitter Sponsored Tags is March 15th, after that time no tags will be available. If you plan to save some money and put in for the draw, please drop us an email or give us a call, we may be able to save a few select spots.
Best Wishes!
JB

We said it first because that’s what we do! Welcome everyone to our new fly fishing website at www.montanasbestflyfishing.com.
The snowpack thus far is showing all signs of providing us with a stellar year on the Stone. Many new upgrades and improvements continue to occur around the ranch, however, one thing remains the same, great fun, great fishing and great people!
I personally look forward to spending lots of time on the waters!
TLS!
