Booking an Elk Hunt

Happy Holidays to everyone and many thanks for all your cards and letters! The river’s pretty much froze up, but the good old wind has kept the hillsides open with plenty of chow for our resident elk herd. Thus far it’s been cold, but mild enough that winter doesn’t feel like it’s really set in. We could use some snow. FWP estimates the Northern elk herd at 10,000.

I thought I’d take a minute to offer some insight on booking a Montana elk hunt with us here at Dome Mountain. As an outfitter, we offer “Outfitter Guaranteed Tags". What this means is there’s no waiting and wondering once you book a hunt, no lottery, no draw, no gambles-you’re guaranteed a tag. Once we’ve received your innitial deposit, we’ll mail you the license information (not complicated at all if you know yourself well enough).

The license is the easy part, the preparation might be just a little harder. Matter of fact, the only thing that’s tougher than preparing so you get the most out of your hunt is the anticipation in counting the days leading up to your hunt. I work with each individual client to make sure we cover all the bases, from physical preparation, having the right gear and getting in the right mental mindset. It’s our goal here at Dome Mountain to make sure you have a hunt that exceeds not only your expectations, but industry standards.

I highly suggest you call our references. I can’t list these numbers on the sight, so you’ll have to contact me direct, toll free at 800-313-4868. All of our references are voluntary, they’re not paid to say anything, they will tell you how it is. It’s important that their description of the hunt closely mirrors your ideas of what type of hunt your looking for.

Upon booking a hunt we can give you the dates of your hunt, discuss initial details, and from that point on, the anticipation begins. Keep in mind, the only dumb questions might be the ones you don’t ask. I’ve not heard one dumb question in planning over 10,000 hunts, so you’ll be fine. Our hunters have been successful in the past because they recognize our operation as something they know they’re going to enjoy. Give us a call, lets find out if this hunt is for you.

Thanks again and may you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday!

See You on the Mountain

"Above and Beyond Elk Hunting"

Now that the 2009 season is behind us, there is plenty of time for reflection. If Outfitting offers one thing, it’s being able to spend time in God’s country with good people doing something they love. I’ve been receiving comment letters back almost daily; it seems we need to put another check-box above “outstanding".

Most fair chase elk hunters would ask for nothing more than to hunt, but to have the opportunities this season provided was certainly more than we could ask for. As always, there were lots of cows, which made things even more challenging. Tough hunting has a way of beating down the spirit of any hunter, but only feeds the soul of the elk hunter. Standard tactics, basics for the most part ruled the season. Patience and persistance, hanging in there. This made all the difference. Each week offered new and interesting opportunities as elk moved into our hunting area.

Spaces are filling up quickly for the 2010 season. Based on the last few season’s successes, we will continue to offer limited hunters per week and breaks between, this way any week is a good week. Thanks again to all those of you who’ve already booked your dates. We will be thinking about you, and about your hunt! Please give us a call toll free at 800-313-HUNT to inquire about the coming season or just to talk elk and Mule Deer hunting.

See You On The Mountain!
